Missing from Google: an indexing problem or a ranking problem?

Failing to find your website in a search does not necessarily mean Google is unaware of it. A page may be indexed but rank far below the first results, or it may not be included at all. These are different problems requiring different checks. Start with one URL and one specific search.

Inspect the URL in Search Console

Use URL inspection in the correct property and record its reported status. Compare the exact address, including domain and path. Google explains that requesting another crawl does not guarantee immediate inclusion. Before repeating the request, understand the reported reason and whether the page changed since its last assessment.

Check whether the page can be included

Confirm the URL responds correctly and its main content is available. Look for a noindex instruction left from a test environment. Check that the canonical address points to the intended page: Google may choose another version among duplicates. Do not point every canonical to the homepage, which obscures the role of individual pages.

  • Correct public URL and a successful response.
  • A distinct title and visible main content.
  • No unintended noindex instruction.
  • A coherent canonical and internal links to the URL.
  • A sitemap containing URLs intended for indexing.

If indexed, investigate search intent

A company may name a service differently from its customers. Compare Search Console queries with the title, service explanation and area you cover. Choose questions the page can answer with real information. Repeating keywords cannot replace examples, conditions, a clear process and evidence of the work.

Choose a change you can assess

Record the baseline and make a coherent improvement: fix a directive, clarify a page or add a relevant internal link. Then monitor crawling, impressions and enquiries over time. Positions vary with the search, location and competition. Avoid assessing the entire strategy through searches in your own browser.

Frequently asked questions

Does submitting a sitemap guarantee indexing?

No. It helps discovery, while inclusion depends on the search systems' assessment. Content, accessibility and technical signals still need checking.

Do I need to publish every day?

Let genuine customer questions and maintenance capacity set the frequency. Improving important pages may be more useful than creating many similar ones.
